Get Involved

Spread the word!

Just letting people know what we’re doing warms our hearts and increases our possibilities, as well as contributing (we hope) to the de-stigmatization of prisoners. Let people know about the project, and tell them why it’s important. Put a link to us up on your website or blog. On the other side, if you are part of an organization with a related mission, we’d love to hear from you about your work and give you some respect.

Teach for Us!

If you are passionately concerned to transform the current nature of incarceration in the US, we would love to talk to you about volunteering for the JCI Scholars Program. Most CD4of our volunteers are teachers, but if you do not have teaching experience – or if your schedule or teaching interests don’t meet with the program’s current needs – there is plenty of other work to be done, such as working on funding, coordinating volunteers, maintaining this website, etc.

If you are interested in volunteering, the thing to do is to email us. Let us know a bit about your background and what you would be interested in doing. If you would like to teach, please share with us the nature of the class you’d like to teach and your teaching resumé.

In order to volunteer for us, you will need to complete some paperwork. You can download a copy of the required paperwork here: Participant Packet, or the volunteer coordinator for JCI Scholars Project will provide you with it. This will authorize the prison to conduct a background check on you, and will (if all goes well) result in your name being included on an entrance memo. It is very important that you complete this paperwork and send it in as soon as possible, as it generally takes a couple/few weeks to be fully processed. If you are volunteering again after having been away from the program for a bit you may need to fill out new paperwork; check with the volunteer coordinator.

Feel free to email us if you have questions about anything at all.
